My breath flows like transparent wind,

The sky of heaven cracked open just a little
And on the crest of a wave a guitar chord shimmered
There was John smiling
Riding a surfboard, playing with the wind
Beneath his feet, bubbles of rhythm
Behind his back a glow of peace
just carried him gently
And what remained on the shore
Was a melody
And a spark of hope in someone’s heart.
A mind enters a state of heightened focus in which the balance between
tension and calm becomes almost perfect.
Neurochemicals such as endorphins and dopamine rise and her brain shifts
into rhythms similar to deep meditation.
In this state the boundaries of the self soften creating a sensation that
resembles touching the edge of death
not as fear but as a moment of profound clarity.
It is a paradoxical experience in which the body prepares for danger while
the mind opens into a refreshing expansive calm
allowing her to feel as though she has passed through death and emerged
more vividly alive.
